For a long time, I thought success meant keeping all the plates spinning.
I was a full-time working mum of five, managing a demanding career in government, a crumbling marriage, and the financial pressure of raising a family on my own. I became the master of multitasking, always showing up, always giving. But behind the strength was a woman running on empty.
There were moments I barely recognised myself. Somewhere between school runs, team meetings, and late-night bills, I lost sight of me. My dreams, my voice, my sense of self, buried under years of shoulds and have tos. But I kept going, because that is what strong women do. Right?
Then came the quiet reckoning.
The moment I realised I did not want to just cope anymore. I wanted to live. I wanted to feel lit up by life, not drained by it.
That desire led me down a path of radical reinvention. I downsized my home, reimagined my lifestyle, and began rebuilding from the inside out. It was not a dramatic escape or an overnight transformation. It was a series of honest choices, often uncomfortable ones, that slowly made more room for the woman I had forgotten.
I learned that adapting had kept me going, but it was not the same as being alive. I learned that rest was not a reward for doing enough. I learned that boundaries were not a betrayal. And I learned that the life I wanted was not out of reach. It had simply been buried under everyone else's expectations.
